Immigrant International Movement Space Overcomes Barriers

Tania Bruguera, resident artist living in Corona, Queens, combines art and politics to create an educational space for new immigrants. The Immigrant International Movement space offers English and multimedia classes, runs a cinema club, and will soon offer video classes to children and adults. Speaking of immigrants who face many challenges in arriving to the United States, Tania seeks to expand visitors’ “horizons through art.” Providing a welcoming space often allows people to take the first steps in adjusting to life in the new country, and gives people a place to turn to for legal advice and skills training. Tania wants immigrant residents to know that “we are on their side.” She wishes to remind us to that “every American is an immigrant.”
